Betty’s EASY All Day Biscuits
recipe revised 12-24-07 (see red print)
recipe revised 5-1-08 (see blue print)
Mix in the morning and let the dough sit All Day till dinner….or.....if you are using baking powder option you can make biscuits/rolls immediately
2 cups scooped [not sifted] organic all purpose flour (you may substitute regular if needed)
2 tablespoons yeast
1 teaspoon salt
(optional) 2 tablespoons baking powder (makes a lighter dough or if you want to make biscuits immediately)
(optional) 1/4 cup olive oil (or your preferred oil)
1cup very warm tap water* (get from tap when you are ready to add to mixture, I find 107 degrees is just about the right temp for me)
Olive oil (or preferred oil) to coat your hands
Greased baking dish or pan (I use olive oil) OR PARCHMENT LINED PAN
NOTE: I bought some parchment paper and I use it now instead of greasing my pans, it is wonderful, biscuits/breads never stick, I have not greased my pans since for any baking!)
Very large bowl
Put flour into bowl
Add yeast and salt (also baking powder if desired) (add oil here if desired)
Mix together
Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture
Add very warm water into the well
Mix with spoon or fork
It should look like a moist doughy consistency (see below) NOTE: IF USING BAKING POWDER YOU CAN PROCEED TO #12
I now go ahead and do step 12,13,14,15, and then step 9,10,11
Put bowl in microwave or oven (not turned on!) just to sit all day to get out of your way to let rise
Let dough sit till ready to put in oven
When ready to bake the dough should have risen to at least double its size
Coat your hands with oil
Pinch off the size biscuit you want to bake
Form into a ball in your hand
Place into greased baking sheet (or parchment lined) and pat down with oiled fingers or spoon
Put in 350 oven for approximately 20 minutes BRUSH WITH OIL OR BUTTER WHEN REMOVED FROM OVEN
Enjoy!
FOR BREAD:
Put dough into greased bread pan you are going to bake it in (OR USE PARCHMENT PAPER)
Be sure you leave enough space for it to rise at least double its size
Put into oven until ready to bake for dinner
Bake at 350 /375 for approximately 30 /20 minutes BRUSH WITH OIL OR BUTTER WHEN REMOVED FROM OVEN
If too floury looking
Get ˝ cup very warm water
Add BY TABLESPOONS very warm water and mix into dough
Till you get a moist doughy consistency
It shouldn’t take more than ˝ cup more water!
